Massey receives state funding
VCU Massey Cancer Center received another boost in its quest to achieve National Cancer Institute Comprehensive status, as Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell and the General Assembly presented the center with $5 million in state appropriations for fiscal year 2012.
Massey has been designated by the NCI for 35 years because of its scientific excellence in cancer research and its vital role in reducing cancer morbidity and mortality.
It is one of only two centers in the state with this designation; however, with Comprehensive status (the highest level of distinction for a cancer center), Massey would become the only facility in Virginia with such a designation, and one of only 42 in the nation.
